Chinese Cultural Imagination in Manila Galleon Trade:In the Case of Language Contact
After the Spanish occupation of the Philippines in the 16th century,a route connecting the Americas and Asia was opened, and on this basis, international trade was formed, historically known as the Manila Galleon Trade, and is regarded by scholars as the prototype of early globalization. From the perspective of cultural imagination, this article explores the cultural imprints of the two ends of the route(the Philippines and Mexico),especially the language contact, confirming that the historical role of the Maritime Silk Road is not only in the field of commerce and trade, but also promotes people-to-people ties between Asia and Latin America. This paper highlights the reception and interpretation of Chinese elements in Latin American culture, and takes history as a mirror, pointing out the realistic value of strengthening people-to-people exchanges between China and Latin America to promote mutual learning between civilizations.
