During their respective tenures as county magistrate,grain transport supervisor,and grand canal commissioner,Yuan Mei,Sun Xingyan,and Guan Ganzhen all composed a number of canal transport poems.Yuan Mei,as a county magistrate,often approached canal transport in his poems from the perspective of the common people,showing that grassroots officials empathized with and pleaded for the people.Sun Xingyan,as the grain transport supervisor and renowned as a genius in his field,showcased his expertise in waterway management in his canal transport poems,which were imbued with textual details and scholarly habits under the influence of the Qianlong-Jiaqing academic atmosphere.Guan Ganzhen,as the grand canal commissioner,depicted the intricate details of canal transport such as military inspections,ice-breaking,and his concerns for the laborers and grain shipments,reflected not only his emphasis on the state's vital canal transport affairs but also his profound care for people's livelihood.Despite their shared involvement in canal transport,the different official positions of these individuals led to variations in the themes,connotations and styles of their canal transport poems,exemplifying the concept of"status-defined poetic identity."
