Yin Xun Pian Li(《音训篇立》)has retained a wealth of ancient Chinese character forms,information on the use of Chinese characters in history,and the phenomenon of combining two Chinese characters into a single character and dividing a single Chinese character into two characters.Among them,many ancient characters not seen in the handed down texts can be confirmed by the unearthed bamboo slips and silk texts.The correct use of these character forms is helpful to the interpretation and understanding of ancient texts.Yin Xun Pian Li pays more attention to the actual correspondence between character forms and meanings in the texts.It reflects the relationship between the use of Chinese characters in history,which helps to clarify the changes of the function of individual Chinese characters in recording words.The phenomenon of combining two Chinese characters into a single character and dividing a single Chinese character into two characters is consistent with the form found in ancient Chinese texts.
