Expression and significance of KIF14 in gastric cancer
Objective: To explore the expressiom of KIF14 in gastric cancer and its significance. Methods: KIF14 mRNA expression was detected in 35 cases of gastric cancer and the corresponding para-cancerous tissue by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR); KIF14 protein expression was detected by immunohistochemistry on tissue microarray, which containing 89 samples of primary gastric cancer and the corresponding para-cancerous tissue, and 30 paired lymph node metastases (LNM). Reswtot KIF14 mRNA was upregulated more than 2-fold in 66.7% patients with gastric cancer. KIF14 protein was upregulated in gastric cancer and correlated with clinical stage, invasion depth, LNM, distant metastasis and Ki67 index. Immnoreactivity of KIF14 was signif icantly higher in LNM than in primary gastric cancer and normal mucosa. The expressiom of KIF14 mRNA and protein in gastric cancer is coincidence. The patients positive for KIF14 had lower overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) than those negative for KIF14. KIF14 was an independent prognostic factor for OS(P<0.01) and DFS(P<0.01). Conclusion: KIF14 may play an important role in gastric cancer tumorigenesis and progression and could serve as a predictor in prognosis in gastric cancer.
