Observation of the effect of hydrocolloid dressing on preventing skin damage caused by electrocardiogram monitoring electrodes in neonates
Objective To observe the effect of hydrocolloid dressing on preventing skin damage caused by electrocardiogram monitoring electrodes in neonates. Methods A total of 112 newborns admitted to the Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Kaiping City from May 2021 to December 2022 were divided into control group(n=56 cases, conventional skin directly affixed electrodes)and observation group(n=56 cases, hydrocolloidal skin protective film was affixed with electrodes)according to a random number table. On day 1,day 2,day 3,day 4,day 5 and day 6,the skin injury of the children in the two groups was evaluated according to the standards stipulated by the International Contact dermatitis Research Group, the incidence of bilateral contact dermatitis in the two groups was calculated, and the difference in the occurrence time of bilateral contact dermatitis between the two groups was compared.Wong-Banker facial expression scale was used to evaluate the pain degree of the two groups. Results The incidence of bilateral contact dermatitis in the observation group was 12.50%(7/56),significantly lower than that in the control group 55.36%(31/56)(χ2=22.942,P=0.000<0.05).The occurrence time of bilateral contact dermatitis in the observation group was significantly later than that in the control group(χ2=13.102,P=0.000<0.05).The pain degree of the observation group was significantly less than that of the control group(Z=8.151,P=0.000<0.05).Conclusion The application of hydrocolloidal dressing before electrodes can greatly reduce the incidence of contact dermatitis, reduce the skin damage caused by the electrodes, ensure the maximum safety of children, and reduce the pain of removing the electrodes and improve the quality of life of children.
