Study on the preventive effect of pit and fissure sealant on dental caries in children and its influence on masticatory efficiency
Objective To analyze the preventive effect of pit and fissure sealant on dental caries in children and its influence on masticatory efficiency. Methods 94 children receiving dental examination were randomly divided into a control group and an observation group, with 47 cases in each group. The control group was given conventional oral intervention measures, and the observation group was treated with pit and fissure sealant based on the control group. The incidence of dental caries and proximal caries, mean number of caries, masticatory efficiency, masticatory function and nutritional status of the two groups were compared. Results At 6 months,1 year and 2 years after intervention, the incidence of dental caries in the observation group were 0,2.13%and 4.26%,and the incidence of proximal caries were 0,0 and 2.13%,respectively;the incidence of dental caries in the control group were 12.77%,17.02%,21.28%,and the incidence of proximal caries were 12.77%,14.89%,19.15%,respectively.The incidence of dental caries and proximal caries in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).After intervention, the mean number of caries in the observation group was(1.02±0.21),which was lower than(1.48±0.25)in the control group(P<0.05).After intervention, the masticatory efficiency of(1.84±0.33)in the observation group was higher than(1.67±0.34)in the control group(P<0.05).After intervention, the masticatory function scores for soft food, dried beans, plant fiber, stewed meat, brittle fruits, brittle vegetables and nuts in the observation group were(9.44±0.86),(8.97±0.55),(8.63±0.71),(8.66±0.68),(8.97±0.94),(8.74±0.66)and(9.04±0.66)points,which were higher than(9.06±0.74),(7.12±0.66),(7.22±0.35),(7.89±0.74),(8.10±0.88),(8.10±0.71)and(8.43±0.77)points in the control group(P<0.05).After intervention, the observation group had serum albumin(ALB)of(39.97±4.30)g/L,triglyceride(TG)of(1.62±0.33)mmol/L,total cholesterol(TC)of(4.94±0.64)mmol/L,and triceps skin fold thickness(TSF)of(17.45±1.61)mm,which were higher than(36.88±4.22)g/L,(1.45±0.26)mmol/L,(4.42±0.71)mmol/L,and(15.77±1.20)mm in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Pit and fissure sealant is effective in preventing dental caries in children. It can reduce the risk of dental caries, improve masticatory efficiency and nutritional status, and has a relatively ideal clinical effect.
