Study on effects of magnesium valproate combined with lamotrigine in patients with bipolar disorder and its influence on WAIS-RC and WMS score
Objective To explore the effects of magnesium valproate combined with lamotrigine in patients with bipolar disorder and its influence on Wechsler adult intelligence scale revised in China(WAIS-RC)and Wechsler memory scale(WMS)score. Methods 92 patients with bipolar disorder were divided into a control group and an observation group according to random number table method, with 46 cases in each group. Both groups were given conventional treatment. On this basis, the control group received magnesium valproate treatment, and the observation group received magnesium valproate combined with lamotrigine treatment.Comparison was made on WAIS-RC and WMS scores, emotional state, inflammatory factors[interleukin-1(IL-1),interleukin-10(IL-10),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),C-reactive protein(CRP)],quality of life and incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups. Results After 4 weeks of treatment, the scores of verbal IQ,IQ item, operational IQ in WAIS-RC,scores of long-term memory,short-term memory and immediate memory in WMS were improved in both groups;in the observation group, the verbal IQ score in WAIS-RC was(115.28±11.71)points,the IQ item score was(113.53±12.32)points,the operational IQ score was(114.62±15.94)points,the long-term memory score in WMS was(44.39±6.82)points,the short-term memory score was(59.74±9.48)points,and the immediate memory score was(15.26±3.26)points,which were higher than(109.48±13.23),(107.53±12.51),(108.53±8.59),(40.26±5.06),(54.56±2.93),and(13.24±2.81)points in the control group(P<0.05).After 4 weeks of treatment, the scores of Young's mania rating scale(YMRS)and self-rating depression scale(SDS)decreased in both groups;the observation group had YMRS score of(7.51±1.24)points and SDS score of(40.34±4.41)points,which were lower than(15.69±2.69)and(50.29±5.54)points in the control group(P<0.05).Before treatment, there were no statistical differences in IL-1,IL-10,TNF-α and CRP levels between the two groups(P>0.05).After 4 weeks of treatment, the levels of IL-1,TNF-α and CRP decreased, and the level of IL-10 increased in both groups;the levels of IL-1,TNF-α and CRP in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, and the level of IL-10 was higher than that in the control group(P<0.05).After 4 weeks of treatment, the scores of bodily pain, mental health, vitality, social function and general health were improved in both groups;the observation group had bodily pain score of(89.45±6.81)points,mental health score of(90.39±6.73)points,vitality score of(90.58±7.91)points,social function score of(88.68±6.61)points and general health score of(91.12±7.39)points,which were higher than(80.68±5.62),(82.12±6.02),(83.25±6.70),(82.61±5.95)and(80.33±6.41)points in the control group(P<0.05).There was no statistical difference in the incidence of adverse reactions(constipation, loss of appetite, dizziness, nausea and vomiting and lethargy)between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Magnesium valproate combined with lamotrigine for patients with bipolar disorder can improve the WAIS-RC and WMS scores, improve the level of inflammatory factors and the emotional state of patients, improve the quality of life of patients, and do not increase the incidence of adverse drug reactions, which is worthy of promotion and application.
