Observation on efficacy of lipoic acid in the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy
Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of lipoic acid in the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Methods 82 patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy were divided into a control group and an observation group according to random number table, each group had 41 cases. The control group received conventional treatment, while the observation group received lipoic acid treatment based on the control group. The therapeutic effect, incidence of adverse reactions, sensory nerve conduction velocity(SCV)and motor nerve conduction velocity(MCV)of median nerve and common peroneal nerve before and after treatment were compared between the two groups. Results After treatment, the total effective rate was 95.12%in the observation group and 80.49%in the control group;the observation group had significantly higher total effective rate than the control group(P<0.05).After treatment, the MCV and SCV of common peroneal nerve were(39.8±4.8)and(45.5±4.0)m/s in the observation group, and those were(35.6±4.1)and(39.4±3.8)m/s in the control group;the MCV and SCV of median nerve were(48.5±4.9)and(46.8±4.5)m/s in the observation group, and those were(42.4±4.6)and(41.4±4.2)m/s in the control group. The MCV and SCV of median nerve and common peroneal nerve in the observation group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Lipoic acid is effective and safe in treating diabetic peripheral neuropathy. It can effectively improve nerve conduction velocity and has prominent clinical value.
