Dementia superimposed on delirium in the elderly:a case report
Delirium is an acute-onset neuropsychiatric disorder, while dementia is an acquired impairment syndrome with cognitive deficits as the core symptom. When dementia is combined with delirium,it is called dementia superimposed on delirium(DSD),which,if not diagnosed and treated in a timely manner, will seriously threaten the health of the elderly, and can seriously lead to an increased risk of mortality and readmission. At present, the health care objects of the military rest system are the elderly, and the early diagnosis, intervention and treatment of the overlap of delirium and dementia in the elderly should be highly concerned. This paper analyzes the causative factors, diagnosis, and effects of non-pharmacological interventions and pharmacological treatments of delirium superimposed on dementia in the elderly, with a view to providing references for the clinical management of such patients by healthcare personnel lacking clinical experience in primary healthcare institutions.
