Efficacy of Huaiqihuang Granule combined with acupuncture on chronic functional constipation and its influence on serum enteric neurotransmitter
Objective To explore the efficacy of Huaiqihuang Granule combined with acupuncture on chronic functional constipation and its influence on serum enteric neurotransmitter. Methods 80 patients with chronic functional constipation were included, and were divided into a study group(42 cases)and a control group(38 cases)according to the differences in treatment methods. The control group was treated with conventional intervention combined with acupuncture, and the study group was treated with Huaiqihuang granules on the basis of the control group. The therapeutic effect, incidence of adverse reactions, constipation symptom and quality of life scores, anorectal dynamics indexes and serum intestinal neurotransmitter levels before and after treatment were compared between the two groups. Results The total effective rate of 85.71%in the study group was significantly higher than 65.79%in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After treatment, the scores of patient assessment of constipation symptoms(PAC-SYM)and patient assessment of constipation quality of life questionnaire(PAC-QOL)in both groups were lower than those before treatment;PAC-SYM and PAC-QOL scores in the study group were(13.25±4.21)and(25.14±4.35)points,which were lower than(18.40±5.73)and(36.21±5.23)points in the control group(P<0.05).After treatment, the maximum rectal tolerable sensation and squeeze anal sphincter pressure were decreased in both groups compared with those before treatment;in the study group, the maximum rectal tolerable sensation was(141.46±32.42)ml and the squeeze anal sphincter pressure was(112.54±29.86)mm Hg(1 mm Hg=0.133 kPa),which were lower than(163.51±33.67)ml and(127.35±30.43)mm Hg in the control group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in rectal resting pressure between the two groups before and after treatment(P>0.05).After treatment, the levels of motilin(MTL),5-hydroxytryptamine(5-HT)and vasoactive intestinal peptide(VIP)in both groups were improved compared with those before treatment;the study group had MTL of(290.17±33.09)ng/L and 5-HT of(112.33±9.52)ng/ml,which were higher than(253.26±30.93)ng/L and(93.26±9.83)ng/ml in the control group;VIP of(123.20±21.35)ng/L in the study group was lower than(186.42±23.53)ng/L in the control group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(χ2=0.459,P=0.498>0.05).Conclusion Huaiqihuang granules combined with acupuncture treatment can effectively relieve constipation symptoms and improve anorectal dynamics indexes, which may be closely related to the regulation of serum VIP,5-HT and MTL levels.
