Vitamin D nutritional status, influencing factors and intervention strategies in children with recurrent respiratory tract infections
Objective To analyze the vitamin D(VitD)nutritional status, influencing factors and intervention strategies in children with recurrent respiratory tract infections(RRTIs).Methods 82 children with RRTIs were selected for the study, and VitD levels were quantified using a fluorescence immunocompetitive assay.Children with adequate VitD{25-hydroxyvitamin D[25-(OH)D]50-250 nmol/L}were categorized as the VitD-normal group(n=44),and those with insufficient and deficient VitD[25-(OH)D<50 nmol/L]were categorized as the VitD-deficient group(n=38).Using case statistics and questionnaires to collect information about the children in the two groups, logistic multifactorial regression was used to analyze the risk factors for VitD deficiency in children with RRTIs.Results The percentage of mothers with junior high school education or below,breastfeeding,anorexia,deep-sea fish intake<1 time/week,anemia,and irregularity of cod-liver oil intake in the VitD-normal group were 9.09%,13.64%,18.18%,6.82%,4.55%,and 11.36%,and those in the VitD-deficient group were 47.37%,39.47%,39.47%,28.95%,26.32%,and 39.47%.Differences were found between the VitD-normal group and VitD-deficient group in terms of mothers'education level, breastfeeding mode,anorexia,deep-sea fish intake, anemia, and cod liver oil intake(P<0.05).There were no differences in age, gender, place of residence, average daily outdoor activity time and recurrent diarrhea between the two groups(P>0.05).Logistic multivariate regression analysis showed that mothers with junior high school education or below,breastfeeding,anorexia,deep-sea fish intake<1 time/week,anemia and irregular cod-liver oil intake were risk factors for VitD deficiency in children with RRTIs(P<0.05).Conclusion The VitD of children with RRTIs is at the insufficient level.Mothers with junior high school education or below,breastfeeding,anorexia,deep-sea fish intake<1 time/week,anemia,and irregular cod-liver oil intake are the risk factors for VitD deficiency in children with RRTIs,and science education on child health care should be strengthened to reduce the prevalence of VitD deficiency in children with RRTIs.
