Diagnostic significance of combined test of serum progesterone and β-HCG in threatened abortion
Objective To analyze the diagnostic value of combined test of serum progesterone and β-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-HCG) in threatened abortion. Methods 56 cases of threatened abortion patients were included in the study group,and 60 pregnant women with normal pregnancy were included in the control group. Patients in the study group were given progesterone drugs and natural vitamin E orally for fetal preservation treatment,and serum progesterone and β-HCG levels were detected in both groups. The serum β-HCG and progesterone levels were compared between the two groups,as well as between the patients with fetal preservation failure and those with continued pregnancy in the study group,the correlation of the serum β-HCG and progesterone levels with threatened abortion was analyzed;and the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was drawn to analyze the diagnostic value of the serum progesterone and β-HCG tests for threatened abortion. Results Before treatment,the study group had serum β-HCG of (5860.22±1377.62) IU/L and progesterone of (14.76±4.75) ng/ml,which were lower than (11768.34±2452.49) IU/L and (32.87±4.54) ng/ml in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment,there were 12 cases of fetal preservation failure and 44 cases of continued pregnancy in the study group. In patients with continued pregnancy,the serum β-HCG was (9635.63±561.90) IU/L and the progesterone was (28.86±4.96) ng/ml after 3 d of treatment,which were higher than (6287.56±378.29) IU/L and (22.65±4.86) ng/ml in patients with fetal preservation failure (P<0.05). Serum β-HCG and progesterone levels were negatively correlated with threatened abortion (P<0.05). The area under the curve (AUC) of serum progesterone,β-HCG single test and combined test were 0.794,0.812 and 0.863,respectively,and the diagnostic value of serum progesterone and β-HCG combined test was significantly higher. Conclusion The combined test of serum progesterone and β-HCG has high diagnostic efficiency for threatened abortion and also can predict the pregnancy outcome.
