The effect of acupuncture combined with traditional Chinese medicine on lumbar function and pain in patients with lumbar disc herniation
Objective To observe the effect of acupuncture combined with traditional Chinese medicine on lumbar function and pain in patients with lumbar disc herniation(LDH).Methods 66 cases of LDH patients were divided into an observation group(conventional intervention+acupuncture combined with Chinese medicine hot compress)and a control group(conventional intervention)according to random numerical table, with 33 cases in each group. Both groups were compared in terms of clinical efficacy, lumbar function[Japanese Orthopaedic Association(JOA)score]and pain level[Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)score],and levels of inflammatory factors[interleukin-6(IL-6),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),C-reactive protein(CRP)].Results The total effective rate of 93.94%in the observation group was higher than 72.73%in the control group, and the difference was significant(P<0.05).After intervention, both groups had higher JOA score and lower VAS score than those before intervention;the observation group had higher JOA score of(23.13±2.92)points than(16.15±2.46)points in the control group, and lower VAS score of(1.02±0.46)points than(2.41±0.56)points in the control group;the difference was significant(P<0.05).After intervention, the levels of IL-6,TNF-α,and CRP in both groups decreased compared to those before intervention;the observation group had IL-6 of(102.12±10.54)pg/ml,TNF-α of(1.01±0.53)ng/ml,and CRP of(4.12±0.63)mg/L,which were lower than(113.54±11.55)pg/ml,(2.64±0.42)ng/ml,and(5.63±0.57)mg/L in the control group;the difference was significant(P<0.05).Conclusion The combination of acupuncture and Chinese medicine hot compress can improve lumbar function, relieve pain, and lower levels of inflammatory factors in LDH patients, with significant effects.
