Observation on the effect of chinese herbal fumigation and wash combined with acupotomy in the treatment of patients with heel pain
Objective To observe the effectiveness of Chinese herbal fumigation and wash combined with acupotomy in the treatment of patients with heel pain. Methods Fifty-four patients with heel pain were randomly divided into a control group and an observation group in a 1∶1 ratio using the red and blue ball drawing method. The control group received acupotomy treatment, while the observation group received additional Chinese herbal fumigation and wash treatment on the basis of the control group's treatment. Comparison was made on clinical efficacy, traditional Chinese medicine syndrome score, ankle and hindfoot function, and the pressure in various plantar regions[mid-foot (MF),medial forefoot (MFF),lateral forefoot (LFF),medial heel (MHEEL),lateral heel (LHEEL)]before and after treatment between the two groups. Results The clinical total effective rate was higher in the observation group (96.30%) compared to the control group (66.67%) (P<0.05). After 21 d of treatment, the scores of pain, tenderness, dysfunction and insomnia in both groups were significantly lower than those before treatment;in the observation group, the pain score was (1.55±0.48) points, the tenderness score was (1.63±0.50) points, the dysfunction score was (1.36±0.37) points, and the insomnia score was (1.19±0.32) points, which were lower than (2.79±0.84),(2.92±0.87),(2.42±0.71),and (2.06±0.63) points in the control group (P<0.05). After 21 d of treatment, the scores of the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) in both groups were significantly higher than those before treatment, and the observation group was higher than the control group (P<0.05). After 21 d of treatment, the pressure of MF,MHEEL and LHEEL in both groups were elevated significantly compared with those before treatment in this group;in the observation group,MF pressure was (135.67±8.39) N/cm2,MHEEL pressure was (145.36±6.04) N/cm2,and LHEEL pressure was (133.63±5.66) N/cm2,which were higher than (128.54±7.25),(138.52±5.93),and (127.58±4.81) N/cm2 in the control group;the pressures of MFF and LFF were decreased significantly compared with those before treatment in this group, and the observation group had MFF pressure of (126.34±2.03) N/cm2 and LFF pressure of (120.33±5.84) N/cm2,which were lower than (128.51±2.09) and (125.63±6.12) N/cm2 in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion The combined treatment of Chinese herbal fumigation and wash with acupotomy for patients with heel pain demonstrates remarkable efficacy, significantly improving the patients' Traditional Chinese Medicine syndromes, ankle and hindfoot function,as well as pressure distribution in various regions of the plantar area.
