Current Status and Regional Differences of Carotid Endarterectomy Surgery in China
Carotid endarterectomy(CEA)surgery is wildly used now in China, but there are still some significant problems related to CEA application. This study analyzed 10 783 CEA cases in various Chinese regions based on data from the Hospital Quality Monitoring System(HQMS)in 2021.The results showed that the average age of CEA patients was(65.8±7.9)years old,82%were men and 18%were women. The majority of patients(85%)were admitted via outpatient visit, with a minority(14%)admitted via the emergency department. The vast majority of surgeries(92%)were completed in tertiary hospitals, and a small proportion(8%)were completed in secondary hospitals.66%of surgery was performed in eastern region,23%in the central region, and 11%in the western region of China.Common comorbidities in CEA patients included hypertension(7 499 cases,70%)and diabetes(3 436 cases,32%).There are certain regional differences in data related to CEA in China, and training for surgeons and perioperative management teams should be improved. In addition, the overall performed CEA cases in China are still less than expected, and there is still a lot of room for further development.
