Relationship between violence exposure and depression in junior high school students
Objective:To explore the relationship between violence exposure and depression in junior high school students, and the role of rumination and mindfulness. Methods:A total of 2 870 junior high school students were selected. The Violence Exposure Scale(VES)was used to assess adolescents'exposure to violence and the degree of exposure to violence. The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale(CES-D)was used to assess the severity of individual depression. The Rumination Scale(RRS)was used to assess the severity of individual ru-mination,and the Mindfulness Scale(CAMM)was used to assess the degree of individual trait mindfulness. The SPSS PROCESS program was used to test the moderated mediating effect. Results:The VES scores were positively correlated with the CES-D scores(β=0.34,P<0.001).The RRS scores played a partial mediating role in the rela-tionship between VES scores and CES-D scores(β=0.29,P<0.001).The mediating effect was 0.11(95%CI:0.09-0.13,P<0.001),and the mediating effect accounted for 31.58%of the total effect. The CAMM scores moderated the relationship between RRS scores and CES-D scores(β=-0.08,P<0.001).Conclusion:Rumina-tion plays a partial mediating role in the influence of violence exposure on depression in junior high school students, and mindfulness moderates the relationship between rumination and depression.
