Relation of anxiety and depression to social support and resilience in male felons
Objective:To explore the relationship among social support, anxiety and depression in male felons and the mediating role of resilience. Methods:A total of 192 prisoners from a male heavy sentence prison in central province were selected as the research subjects. The Social Support Scale(prisoner version),Connor-Davidson Re-silience Scale(CD-RISC),Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS)and Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale(CES-D)were used for evaluation. Results:The social support scale scores were negatively correlated with the scores of SAS and CES-D(r=-0.23,-0.24),and positively correlated with CD-RISC scores(r=0.25).The CD-RISC scores were negatively correlated with the scores of SAS and CES-D(r=-0.24,-0.31,Ps<0.01).Resilience played a mediating role between social support and anxiety and depression and the mediating effect of resilience were -0.04 and -0.06,accounting for 22.2% and 33.3% of the total effects. Conclusions:There is a close relationship between social support and anxiety and depression among male felons.Resilience may partially mediate the relationship between social support and anxiety and depression.
