Relationship among weight stigma,loneliness and self-esteem in Chinese college students
Objective:To explore the relationship among implicit weight stigma,explicit weight stigma,loneli-ness,and self-esteem in college students.Methods:A total of 185 Chinese college students were selected from two universities in Fujian Province,and assessed with the Weight Stigma Scale for College Students(C-WSS),Revised UCLA Loneliness Scale(UCLA-R),and Self-Esteem Scale(SES).The Single Category Implicit Association Test(SC-IAT)was used to assess the D values of the total tool of implicit weight stigma.Results:Total SC-IAT(D val-ues)and the UCLA-R scores were positively associaced with the C-WSS scores(β=0.16,0.20),while the SES scores were negatively associaced with the C-WSS scores(β=-0.22).The UCLA-R scores were negatively asso-ciaced with the SES scores(β=-0.54).Conclusion:The results suggest that the level of explicit weight stig-mamay be related to implicit weight stigma,loneliness and self-esteem in Chinese college students.
