Suicidal ideation and related factors in college students with visual and hearing disabilities
Objective:To explore the suicidal ideation and related factors in college students with visual and hearing disabilities. Methods:Totally 540 college students with visual and hearing disabilities in a special education college in Beijing were selected. They were assessed with the National Comorbidity Survey Replication(NCS-R)for suicidal ideation and behavior,Psychological Strain Scale(PSS-40),Depression,Anxiety and Stress Scale(DASS-21),Index-Well-Being Scale(IWB),and Satisfaction with Life Scale(SWLS).Results:The scores of NCS-R were higher in female students with visual and hearing disabilities than in males(P<0.05).The results of regression analysis showed that female and depression scores were positively correlated with the total scores of NCS-R(β=0.69,0.07,Ps<0.05),while IWB and SWLS scores were negatively correlated with the NCS-R total scores(β=-0.03,-0.06,Ps<0.05).Conclusion:It suggests that suicidal ideation may have higher levels in fe-male college students with visual and hearing disabilities, and is associated with depression, subjective well-being,and life satisfaction.
