Progress of researches on the antiparasitic activity of antimicrobial peptide LL-37
Parasitic diseases caused by protozoan and helminth infections are still widespread across the world, notably in trop-ical and subtropical areas, which threaten the children and adult health.Long-term use of anti-parasitic drugs may result in re-duced drug susceptibility and even drug resistance.Antimicrobial peptides have been demonstrated to inhibit parasite growth and development, which has potential antiparasitic values.LL-37,the only human antimicrobial peptide in the cathelicidin fami-ly,has been widely investigated. This paper reviews the progress of researches on the antiparasitic activity of LL-37,and discuss-es the prospects of LL-37 in the research of parasites.
