With the development of China's economy and society, changes in the nutritional structure of the Chinese population and the deepening of the aging process, the morbidity and mortality rates of cardiovascular diseases in China continue to increase, posing a great threat to the life and health of the people and a greater economic burden to society. As a result, research into the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases has boomed in recent years.Ferroptosis is a newly defined form of programmed cell death in recent years. Our team has found that ferroptosis is a novel pathological mechanism that regulates the development of aortic dissection, and that targeting ferroptosis significantly inhibits the progression of aortic dissection and death from dissection rupture in mice.In addition, ferroptosis has also been shown to be involved in the pathological process of various cardiovascular diseases, such as myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury,atherosclerosis,drug-induced heart failure,sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy, and diabetic cardiomyopathy, suggesting that targeting ferroptosis is expected to be a new approach for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Therefore,in this review,we summarize the research progress of ferroptosis in cardiovascular diseases and discuss the potential value of ferroptosis in clinical translation.
