Coronary artery calcification(CAC)is often regarded as a natural process of atherosclerosis. As a vascular degenerative disease, the main cause of coronary artery calcification is the abnormal deposition of calcium salts on the coronary artery wall, which then spreads to the tunica media and tunica intima of the blood vessels, resulting in the hardening of the vessel wall and the weakening of the vasodilation response, thus affecting the blood flow of the coronary artery.Studies have shown CAC is closely related to the severity of coronary atherosclerosis and the incidence of future cardiac events. This article reviews the research progress of CAC in recent years, including the pathogenesis, detection methods, treatment options and their advantages and disadvantages.
