Study on association between sleep problems and dysmenorrhea and stress levels among 1 300 senior high school girls in a school
Objective To investigate the current situation of sleep problems in senior high school girls, and to ana-lyze the effects of dysmenorrhea and stress levels on sleep problems. Methods A total of 1 283 girls in 20 classes of three grades of senior high school were selected from Zhenjiang Middle School by cluster sampling to understand their sleep prob-lems,dysmenorrhea and stress levels, and the differences in the detection rates of sleep problems, dysmenorrhea, and stress levels between/among different groups were compared by chi-square test, and the effects of stress level and dysmenorrhea on sleep problems were analyzed by logistic regression model. Results The detection rate of sleep problems was 20.1%,and dysmenorrhea increased the risk of sleep problems[OR(95%CI)=2.42(1.77-3.31)].Increased levels of stress also increased the risk of sleep problems[OR(95%CI)=7.23(4.47-11.69)].Logistic regression analysis showed that dysmenorrhea with high-stress levels significantly increased the risk of sleep problems compared with low-stress levels without dysmenorrhea[OR(95%CI)=12.32(6.71-22.63)].Conclusions Dysmenorrhea and high-stress level are important factors affecting sleep problems.Relieving dysmenorrhea symptoms and high-stress level plays an important role in improving the sleep of senior high school girls.
