Survey on cognition,attitude and use of e-cigarettes among college stu-dents in Hainan Province
Objective To investigate the cognition,attitude,and use of e-cigarettes among college students in Hain-an Province to provide a reference for the development of tobacco control education among college students.Methods A total of 3 391 students from 3 undergraduate colleges and 4 junior colleges in Hainan Province were randomly selected by multi-stage sampling method,and a cross-sectional survey was conducted on the general situation,cognition,attitude,and use of e-cigarettes by questionnaire survey.The chi-square test was used for comparison between/among groups.Results Totally 96.2%of college students in Hainan Province have heard of e-cigarettes,84.7%of college students thought that"e-cigarettes are harmful to the body",of which 40.5%thought that"e-cigarettes are very harmful to the body",43.5%of college students thought that"e-cigarettes may cause addiction",53.0%of the students thought that"using e-cigarettes do not help quit smok-ing",87.6%of the students said that"they do not plan to try to use e-cigarettes in the next year",74.5%of college students believed that"e-cigarettes should be regulated by the government".Totally 20.0%of college students have tried using e-ciga-rettes,and 7.7%were using e-cigarettes.There were statistically significant differences in the cognition,attitude,and use of e-cigarettes among college students of different genders(P<0.05).Conclusions College students in Hainan Province have a certain understanding of e-cigarettes,and most of them can treat e-cigarettes rationally,and the use rate of e-cigarettes is rela-tively high.The implementation of policies related to the prevention and control of e-cigarettes should be accelerated,and schools and relevant departments should strengthen publicity and education.
