Prevalence and influencing factors of low vision among primary and sec-ondary school students undergoing vision screening
Objective This study investigated the current status and influencing factors of low vision among prima-ry and middle school students,to provide a theoretical basis for preventive measures to protect vision among primary and mid-dle school students. Methods A total of 839 students from the Xinbei District School in Changzhou City were selected through a stratified cluster sampling method in September 2020.Single factor analysis and a logistic multi-factor method were used to analyze the independent factors of low vision among primary and secondary school students. Results Among 839 primary and secondary school students,243 had poor vision, with a detection rate of 28.96%.Multi-factor analysis indi-cated that female sex(OR=1.454,95%CI=1.405-1.506),age>12 years(OR=2.521,95%C/=1.190-5.341),daily outdoor ac-tivity time<30 min(OR=1.308,95%CI=1.272-1.345),parental myopia(OR=1.814,95%CI=1.795-1.834),daily sleep time<8 h(OR=1.277,95%C/=1.009-1.617),performing eye exercises less than twice a day(OR=1.370,95%CI=1.162-1.615),having recess within teaching buildings(OR=1.168,95%C/=1.134-1.204),Daily continuous learning or screen expo-sure time ≥2h(OR=1.384,95%C/=1.366-1.401),being conscious of not paying attention to eye protection(OR=2.519,95%CI=1.982-3.201),being conscious of poor reading and writing posture(OR=1.580,95%C/=1.084-2.304),and being conscious of little exercise between classes(OR=1.344,95%CI=1.224-1.476)were independent risk factors for low vision among primary and secondary school students(P<0.05).Conclusion The rate of poor visual acuity is high among primary and secondary school students in the Xinbei District of Changzhou City and is affected by various factors. Therefore, schools and families should work together and take relevant intervention measures.
