Effects of nutritional package intervention on the growth and develop-ment of infants in poor areas of Ganzhou City
Objective This study was aimed at exploring the effects of nutritional packages on the growth and development of infants in poor areas of Ganzhou City,to provide a basis for the formulation of relevant policies. Methods A convenience sampling method was used to select 382 infants 6 to 24 months of age in poor areas of Ganzhou City in 2021,di-vided into a control group and an observation group. The control group did not receive nutritional packet intervention,where-as the observation group was supplemented with one nutritional packet per day for 12 months.Length, body mass, and rates of anemia, growth retardation and emaciation were compared between groups before and after the intervention. Results Af-ter 12 months of the intervention, the average length in the observation group increased by 10.35±2.91 cm,and the average body mass increased by 1.85±0.44 kg,whereas the average length in the control group increased by 7.00±2.41 cm,and the average body mass increased by 1.25±0.39 kg;the differences between groups were statistically significant(t=12.253,14.103,both P<0.001).In the observation group, the rate of anemia decreased from 9.42%to 1.57%;the rate of growth retar-dation decreased from 6.81%to 1.57%;and the rate of emaciation decreased from 7.85%to 1.57%,and was significantly lower than that in the control group(5.76%;P<0.05).Conclusion Nutritional packages promoted the physical growth and devel-opment of infants in poor areas of Ganzhou City, and ameliorated malnutrition and anemia.
