Survey on hospice care acceptance in elderly patients with diabetes
Objective To investigate and analyze the acceptance and influencing factors of hospice care in elderly patients with diabetes mellitus in a community health service center. Methods A total of 630 elderly diabetic patients in Hangtou Town were selected through an interview-based questionnaire survey and 598 valid questionnaires were finally ob-tained.Their general basic situation and the knowledge and acceptance of hospice care were understood and the influencing factors were analyzed. Results Among the 598 elderly diabetic patients,288(48.2%)received hospice care and 310(51.8%)did not receive hospice care.Univariate analysis showed that gender, marital status, religious belief, medical expens-es,duration of diabetes mellitus, comorbidities with other diseases, family doctor contract, psychological state, family rela-tionship,understanding of hospice care,end-of-life planning, and hospice care services had an impact on the acceptance of hospice care in elderly patients with diabetes mellitus(P<0.05).The results of multivariate logistic regression showed that those with religious beliefs, family doctor contracts, and knowledge of hospice care were more likely to receive hospice care, while those with end-of-life planning were less likely to receive hospice care. Conclusion The knowledge of hospice care for elderly diabetic patients in Hangtou Town is lacking and the acceptance is relatively poor,so it is necessary to increase publicity and management.
