Investigation of knowledge of HPV and acceptance of HPV vaccination among college students in Fujian Province
Objective By investigating the knowledge, attitudes and practices among college students in Fujian Province concerning HPV and HPV vaccination, this evidence-based study aimed to improve self-health management and cancer prevention among college students. Methods A self-designed questionnaire was used to investigate 1 755 college students in Fujian Province based on convenience sampling. The x2 test was used for comparison of HPV and its vaccine awareness rate and vaccination willingness rate among college students, and a multiple Logistic regression model was used to analyze the factors associated with the HPV vaccination intention rate among the students. Results The overall rate of awareness of HPV and its vaccine among college students was 62.24%.The vaccination willingness rate was 95.44%,but the vaccination rate among female college students was 19.78%.There were statistically significant differences in the willingness to accept vaccination among different genders, majors and awareness levels(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the willingness to accept vaccination related to place of origin, living expenses and sexual behavior(P>0.05).Multivariate re-gression analysis showed that females were more willing to accept vaccination than males(OR=0.085,95%CI=0.047-0.155),with similar results for students who know that boys can also get infected with HPV(OR=6.524,95%CI=3.934-10.818)and those whose acquaintances had been vaccinated with HPV vaccine(OR=1.952,95%CI=1.184-3.218).Conclusion The high rate of awareness of HPV and HPV vaccination among college students contrasts with the low vaccination rate.There-fore,in order to increase the HPV vaccination rate among college students,we recommend the development of an integrated"home-school-community"model for health education and improvement with the help of greater financial support and input from the vaccine industry.
