Epidemiological characteristics of tuberculosis in Nanyang City, during 2011-2022
Objective This study analyzed the epidemiological characteristics of new tuberculosis cases in Nan-yang City from 2011 to 2022,to provide a basis for formulating tuberculosis prevention and control measures. Methods De-scriptive epidemiological analysis was used to analyze the characteristics of 59 888 new tuberculosis cases reported in the Tu-berculosis Information Management System in Nanyang City from 2011 to 2022.Results A total of 59 888 new tuberculosis cases were reported in Nanyang City from 2011 to 2022,and the average incidence rate was 50.14/100 000(59 888/119 432 526).The incidence rate decreased over the 12-year period(x2trend=2,774.809,P<0.001),and the positive etiolo-gy rate increased from 37.40%(2 614/6 990)in 2011 to 53.45%(1 587/2 969)in 2022(x2trend=902.932,P<0.001).The onset time was concentrated in March to June. The highest average incidence rate was in the demonstration area(213.73/100 000),whereas the lowest was in Wolong District(12.51/100 000).A total of 44 262 male cases(73.91%)and 15 626 female cases(26.09%)of new tuberculosis were identified, and the male-to-female ratio was 2.83:1.The incidence rate was significantly higher in males(73.90/100 000)than females(26.25/100 000)(x2=13 528.20,P<0.001).The peak incidence of new tuber-culosis cases occurred in people 55-64 years of age for both males and females. The occupational distribution was dominated by farmers, who accounted for 90.16%(53 998/59 888)of cases. Conclusions The tuberculosis epidemic in Nanyang City decreased over the 12-year period. However, further efforts should be made to promote government attention and investment.Prevention and control efforts should be strengthened in March to June each year, with priority given to areas with large pro-portions of migrant workers and floating populations.Strengthening prevention and control efforts for farmers, males, and el-derly people will be key in the future.
