Effects of state-organized centralized procurement of drugs on statin use at a single hospital
Objective This study was aimed at exploring the effects of centralized,state-organized drug procure-ment on the use of statins at a single hospital. Methods All data, including related statistical data, were collected from the hospital information system.Data on drug use were analyzed before(July 2018 to January 2019)and after(March 2019 to September 2019)the implementation of state-organized centralized drug procurement.Statin consumption, statin sales,fre-quency of medication(DDDs)and limited daily cost(DDC)were compared before and after the implementation of centralized drug procurement. Results The growth rates of rosuvastatin and pravastatin were 926.74%and 103.81%respectively,and were followed by those of fluvastatin, atorvastatin and amlodipine atorvastatin,at 19.94%,9.90%and 8.58%,respectively.Simvastatin and pivastatin decreased to different degrees, and had change rates of-3.66%and-51.36%,respectively.After implementation of centralized procurement of drugs organized by the state, the total consumption of statins decreased by 14.98%year on year. The total consumption of rosuvastatin showed the fastest increase(1 030.12%)and was followed by pravastatin, fluvastatin, amlodipine and atorvastatin,at 100.12%,20.79%and 3.40%,respectively.The total consumption of pivastatin, simvastatin and atorvastatin decreased year on year, with change rates of-93.82%,-91.09%and-55.99%,respectively.The DDDs of statins significantly increased after the implementation of centralized procurement of drugs, among which the pravastatin and rosuvastatin DDDs increased sharply, whereas the pivastatin DDDs significantly decreased. The DDC ranking of statins changed from amlodipine atorvastatin, atorvastatin and rosuvastatin before,to rosuvastatin,amlodip-ine atorvastatin and pravastatin after the nationally orga-nized implementation of centralized procurement of drugs.Among them, the rankings of atorvastatin and pivastatin de-creased significantly, and simvastatin showed the largest de-crease in DDC.Conclusion The national organization of centralized drug procurement effectively decreased the daily cost of statin drug use and the burden of medication, and provided an effective reference for the adjustment of drug prices.
