Detection of visual impairment among junior high school students in Xia-men City from 2019 to 2023
Objective This study analyzed the detection status of visual impairment among students at a middle school in Xiamen,to provide a basis for formulating prevention and control measures,and evaluating their effectiveness.Methods With a cluster sampling method,data from"Xiamen i Education Comprehensive Service Platform-Student Vision and Physical Fitness Monitoring and Management"were used to collect visual examination data for students in the school from 2019 to 2023.SPSS statistical software was used for data analysis.Results The detection rates of poor vision among students in 2019 to 2023 were 80.21%,77.53%,80.25%,78.37%,and 77.79%,respectively,and showed no linear trend(P>0.05).A decreasing trend was observed in female students(P=0.033).The detection rate of visual impairment showed an in-creasing trend with grade level in all years except 2020(P<0.01).The detection rate of poor vision among students in each grade showed no linear trend over the years(all P>0.05).Tracking the detection rate of poor vision among students over a 3-year period in 2019,2020,and 2021 indicated an increasing trend with grade level(all P<0.01).Conclusions From 2019 to 2023,no linear trend were observed in the detection rate of visual impairment among junior high school students at a mid-dle school in Xiamen.The detection rate of visual impairment exceeded the national average for the past 5 years.Families,schools,medical and health institutions,relevant government departments,and other sectors of society should actively partici-pate in building a visually friendly environment.
