Prevalence of metabolic syndrome, and predictive value of relevant body fat indicators to support health check-ups,in the population 65 years or older in a town in Changshu City
Objective This study investigated the prevalence of metabolic syndrome(MetS)among the population 65 years of age and above in Meili Town,Changshu City,to explore the predictive value of body fat indicators for MetS.Methods The study examined residents participating in health check-ups for older people in Meili Town,Changshu City, from 2022 to 2023.Questionnaire surveys, physical measurements.and laboratory indicator tests were conducted.ROC curve analysis was used to determine the cut-off points for body fat indicators in predicting MetS.Results The prevalence of MetS among older people in Meili Town was 33.60%.Among the five body fat indicators(WC,BMI,WHtR,LAP,and VAI),LAP had the best predictive performance for MetS among community-dwelling older people. The cut-off value for LAP was 26.235 for men(AUC:0.896)and 38.425 for women(AUC:0.894).Conclusions The prevalence of MetS and its components was high among older residents of Meili Town,Changshu City.LAP had the best predictive performance for MetS among commu-nity-dwelling older people.Early targeted interventions using this indicator might help decrease and control the occurrence and progression of MetS.
