Factors associated with adolescent adjustment disorder
Objective This study explored the factors influencing school related adjustment disorder in adoles-cents,to provide a theoretical basis for improving school adaptation among adolescents. Methods Adolescents with adjust-ment disorder 12-18 years of age who were hospitalized at a grade three hospital in Shandong between May 2022 and December 2022 were selected as the case group, and healthy students matched 1∶1 by age and sex were selected as the control group. The two groups were investigated and evaluated with a self-designed general demographic questionnaire and school adjust-ment scale.Factors correlated with adjustment disorder were analyzed with univariate and logistic regression. Results After matching, each group contained 222 participants(65 males and 157 females). The school emotion and attitude score was lower in the case group(20.29±8.20)than the control group(25.21±6.48),and the peer relationship score was lower in the case group(21.67±6.77)than the control group(25.09±5.22).The score in the case group(16.04±5.78)was significantly lower than that in the control group(17.70±4.47)(all P<0.01).Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that having a fa-ther away from home, experiencing major family changes in the past year, changing schools,or attending higher schools in the prior 6 months were risk factors for school-related adjustment disorders. Conclusions Adolescents whose fathers were away from home, whose families experienced major changes in the past year, and who had changed or advanced to new schools in the prior 6 months were most likely to have school-related disorders.Schools should pay greater attention to school adjustment among these adolescents.
