Application and research progress of natamycin in fungal keratitis
Natamycin is a polyene macrolide antibacterial drug which is used in treating fungal infections in eyes in recent years due to its excellent inhibitory effect.Natamycin is mainly used to treat local fungal keratitis, but for refractory keratitis it has poor clinical efficacy. For refractory fungal keratitis with insufficient local treatment response, special medication pathways are also needed. With the long-term use of natamycin eye drops in clinical, shortcomings is also shown, such as low penetration rate in eyes and drug resistance. This review reviews the clinical application of natamycin in fungal keratitis based on the current researches or existing studies on its antibacterial effects, antibacterial mechanisms, and clinical treatment, aiming to help the rational selection of clinical treatment methods, improve its shortcomings, and provide assistance for future in-depth research on natamycin.
