Objective To review systematically the interventional function of Shexiang Baoxin Pills in animal model of atherosclerosis(AS).Methods The databases of PubMed,Web of Science,EMbase,Cochrane Library,CNKI,VIP,WanFang Data and SinoMed were retrieved for collecting the published documents related to trials of AS animal model intervened with Shexiang Baoxin Pills from database establishment time to July 18,2023.The documents were screened and data was extracted to establish a literature information base by 2 researchers independently.The documents were given a review on risk of bias by using SYRCLEbiasrisk assessment tool for animal trials.A Meta-analysis was conducted by using RevMan 5.4 software.Results There were totally 7 documents included into Meta-analysis after screening.Compared with model blank group,aortic plaque to lumen area ratio decreased(SMD=-3.94,95%CI:-6.53~-1.36),and the levels of low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol(LDL-C,SMD=-2.86,95%CI:-4.21~-1.52),total cholesterol(TC,SMD=-2.83,95%CI:-4.18~-1.47),and triglyceride(TG,SMD=-2.80,95%CI:-4.57~-1.03)decreased in in Shexiang Baoxin Pills group.The difference in level of high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol(HDL-C,SMD=0.93.95%CI:-0.34~2.19)had no statistical significance between 2 groups.Conclusion The results of this study showed that the intervention of Shexiang Baoxin Pills can reduce aortic plaque area and levels of TC,TG and LDL-C.The mechanism may be related to the inhibition of inflammatory response,promotion of cholesterol efflux for regulating lipid metabolism,protection of vascular endothelium,alleviation of vascular endothelial apoptosis and activation of autophagy.The above conclusions need to be validated by incorporating high-quality literature with a more rigorous design.
