Objective To investigate the predictive value of serum soluble suppression of tumorigenicity 2 (sST2) and syndecan-1 levels for major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF).Methods One hundred AF patients treated in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University from June 2021 to June 2023 were enrolled as the observation group, and carried out a 6-month follow-up.The patients were separated into a poor prognosis group (31 cases) and a good group (69 cases) based on whether they had MACE.Meantime, another 100 healthy individuals who experienced physical check ups in our hospital were selected as the control group. The serum levels of sST2 and syndecan-1 in the observation group and the control group were compared.Multivariate logistic regression was applied to analyze the influencing factors of MACE in AF patients.ROC curve was applied to analyze the predictive value of serum sST2 and syndecan-1 levels for MACE in AF patients. Results Compared with the control group, the serum levels of sST2 and syndecan-1 were significantly increased in the poor prognosis group and the good prognosis group (P<0.05).Compared with the good group, there was no obvious difference in age, gender, body mass index (BMI),smoking history, hypertension history, diabetes history, and the serum levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and homocysteine (Hcy) in the poor prognosis group (P>0.05),the serum levels of C-reactive protein (CRP),sST2,syndecan-1 and the proportion of drinking history were higher in the poor prognosis group (P<0.05).The serum levels of sST2 and syndecan-1,and the history of alcohol consumption were influencing factors for the occurrence of MACE in patients (P<0.05).The area under the curve (AUC) of serum sST2 and syndecan-1 levels in predicting MACE in AF patients was 0.829 and 0.824,respectively,the AUC predicted by the combination of the two was 0.921.Combined prediction of both is superior to predicting each individually (Zcombination-sST2=1.991,Zcombination-syndecan-1=1.996,P=0.047,0.046),the sensitivity of the combined prediction of the two was 80.65%,and the specificity was 94.20%.Conclusion The serum levels of sST2 and syndecan-1 are upregulated in AF patients, and sST2 and syndecan-1,and the history of alcohol consumption are influencing factors for the occurrence of MACE in AF patients. The combination of the two has high predictive value for the occurrence of MACE in AF patients.
