The clinical efficacy of Tai Chi rehabilitation six-style training in treating chronic fatigue syndrome with concurrent heart and spleen deficiency, and its impact on oxidative stress
Objective To evaluate the clinical effectiveness of Tai Chi rehabilitation six-style train-ing in treating chronic fatigue syndrome(CFS)and its impact on oxidative stress. Methods Sixty pa-tients diagnosed as CFS and cardiosplenic deficiency syndrome were randomly divided into a treatment group(n=30)and a control group(n=30).Both groups took Gui Pi Pills, while the treatment group was additionally provided with the Tai Chi rehabilitation six-style training. Before the treatment,as well as after 4-and 8-week treatment, and 4-week follow-up,both groups were evaluated using Tra-ditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)symptom scale and Fatigue Scale-14(FS-14).Before and after 8-week treatment, both groups were measured the superoxide dismutase(SOD),glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)and malondialdehyde(MDA)in their serum. Results Repeated measures ANOVA showed that there were significant differences between the two groups in the time effect, intergroup effect and inter-action effect of the TCM symptom score and FS-14 score. The scores of TCM symptoms after 4-and 8-week treatment, and 4-week follow-up,and the FS-14 scores after 8-week treatment and 4-week follow-up in the treatment group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.01).Moreover,after 8 weeks of treatment, the serum SOD activity of the treatment group was significantly higher than the control group(P<0.05),and the content of MDA was significantly lower than the latter group(P<0.05).In addition, the total effective rate in the treatment group was 93.10%(27/29),signifi-cantly higher than 72.41%of the control group(21/29)(P<0.05).Conclusion Tai Chi rehabilitation six-style training helps to relieve physical and mental fatigue symptoms in CFS patients with heart and spleen deficiency syndrome, enhance their antioxidant capacity, thereby improving clinical outcomes.
