With the rapid development of call centers,more and more call center employees have reported experiencing abnormal symptoms after hearing prolonged sudden loud sounds (sound events) transmitted randomly over the phone. These symptoms include trauma reactions,pain/burning/numbness in and around the ears,ear stuffiness,tinnitus,auditory hypersensitiviry,and vertigo,which are significantly different from those caused by traditional noise and explosive injuries. At present,the term Acoustic Shock Injury (ASI) is used to describe this group of symptoms,and to explain a series of symptoms that may occur after exposure to acoustic events. This article provides a review of current research on ASI both domestically and internationally,aiming to provide assistance for the diagnosis and treatment of ASI.
