Antibacterial Activity in vitro and Anti-inflammatory Effects in vivo of Baicalein
OBJECTIVE:To study the antibacterical activity in vitro and anti-inflammatory effects in vivo of baicalein.METHODS:Filter paper was used to study inhibitory effects of baicalein (10 mg/ml) on Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus,Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger.MIC of baicalein to 5 strains was determined by tube double dilution method.Xylene induced mice acute inflammation, and mice ear swelling, swelling inhibition rate and serum contents of TNF-α and IL-1 were all determined.RESULTS:10 mg/ml Baicalein had inhibitory effects on 5 strains.MIC of baicalein to the 5 Strains were 0.312 5,0.312 5,0.625 0,0.312 5 and 0.625 0 mg/ml.0.2,0.1 mg/kg baicalein inhibited xylene induced mice ear swelling significantly, and 0.2,0.1 mg/kg baicalein can significantly reduce the serum content of TNF-αt in xylene induced mice; 0.2 mg/kg baicalein can significantly decrease the serum content of IL-1 in xylene induced mice.CONCLUSIONS:Baicalein has antibacterial activity in vitro and anti-inflammatory effects in vivo.
