The severe challenges of obesity in China and worldwide:the need for effective intervention measures and actions
The prevalence of overweight and obesity in China has been rapidly increasing,posing a critical public health problem.The prevention and control of obesity and related non-communicable diseases have increasingly gained prominence in the Chinese government and society in recent years.However,there is still an urgent need to intensify existing measures and action programs to restrain the rapidly growing trend of obesity.It is imperative to strengthen chronic disease prevention and control in China,and obesity intervention serves as a good lever.This special issue comprises ten papers focusing on important obesity-related problems,including epidemiology,disease burden,prevention,and treatment from a global and Chinese perspective.The issue reports new advances and important achievements in obesity-related research to assist future actions.China needs to actively develop effective new measures for obesity prevention and control,promote the realization of the"Healthy China"strategic goals,and contribute China's capabilities and experiences to global efforts to combat obesity and related chronic diseases.
