Research on training needs and support strategies for personnel in disease prevention and control institutions in China
Objective To investigate and analyze the training needs of personnel in disease prevention and control institutions in China to provide a basis for standardizing the training system and improving the training system. Methods Stratified random sampling was used to select 2 290 CDC staff members from disease control institutions in Beijing,Hunan,Shanghai,Guangdong,Gansu,Jilin, and Sichuan according to the geographical unit of China, and a questionnaire survey was conducted on the training needs of CDC staff members. The Chi-square test was used to compare the differences in training needs among individuals with different characteristics. Results Among the surveyed individuals,2 211(96.55%)expressed a need for training;1 037 people(45.28%)preferred to receive training two to less than four times per year;1 220 people(53.28%)considered two to less than four days per training session to be appropriate. There was a strong interest in training related to the prevention and control of infectious diseases and public health emergencies.Univariate analysis revealed that individuals of different ages, work experience, types of professional qualifications, monthly income, and educational levels showed statistically significant differences in their perceived need for training(P<0.05).Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that the demand for training was higher among individuals aged 30 to less than 40(OR=2.67,95%CI:1.38-5.17),40-<50(OR=4.14,95%CI:2.08-8.21),and ≥50(OR=2.56,95%CI:1.35-4.85)(P<0.05).In comparison, the training demand was lower for those with a monthly income of 5 000 to less than 8 000 yuan(OR=0.40,95%CI:0.20-0.78,P=0.008).Conclusions There is a strong demand for training among personnel in disease control institutions, and age and monthly income influence the demand for training. It is recommended to arrange training frequency, duration, methodology, professional content, and training institutions rationally based on the training needs of personnel with different characteristics,in order to effectively enhance the training outcomes and effectiveness and gradually improve the training system for disease control personnel.
