Analysis of place of death due to epilepsy and influencing factors in Chinese residents in 2021
Objective To analyze the distribution of place of death due to epilepsy and influencing factors in China in 2021,and to provide theoretical basis for the formulation of health care policies. Methods Chi-square test and binary logistic regression were used to analyze the factors influencing the place of epilepsy deaths among Chinese residents, using information on epilepsy deaths from the National Mortality Surveillance System(NMSS),and incorporating variables such as age,gender,urban/rural area, region, marital status, and education level. Results In 2021,there were 2 424 cases of epilepsy deaths, accounting for 1 725 cases and 512 cases of deaths at home and in medical and health institutions, respectively. The highest proportion of deaths in medical and health institutions was in Shanghai(53.33%),and the lowest was in Zhejiang(6.45%).Epileptic patients with moderate(OR=0.46,95%CI:0.34-0.63)and high(OR=0.34,95%CI:0.20-0.59)education were less likely to die at home compared to those in the lower education group;and those with epilepsy in rural areas were more likely to die at home compared to those in urban areas(OR=1.65,95%CI:1.38-1.99)Conclusions The main place of death of epilepsy in China was at home.Attention should be paid to the change of health conception of patients with epilepsy with low educational level, western region and rural area, and to promote the development of hospital-community-family integrated nursing model in China.
