Analysis of the willingness and influencing factors of community-dwelling older adults to utilize socialized elder care in Shanghai
Objective To understand the willingness of the elderly to received socialized elderly care and its influencing factor among community-dwelling older adults in Shanghai.Methods By using convenience sampling,the questionnaire survey was conducted among residents aged 60 years and older going to community health care centers selected from five districts in Shanghai to understand elderly care mode and the willingness of the elderly for socialized elderly care.A logistic regression model was used to analyze the factors that influence willingness for socialized elderly care.Results A total of 1 965 participants were included in the study,among which 51.91%(1 020/1 965)accepted socialized elderly care.The analysis showed that compared to older adults aged ≥80 years,cared for only by their spouse,living in suburban areas,with a personal monthly income ≥8,000 yuan,dissatisfied with life,and with severe functional impairment,elderly people were more likely to prefer socialized elderly care if they aged 70-<80(OR=1.95,95%CI:1.34-2.84)or were cared for by their spouse and children(OR=1.35,95%CI:1.05-1.74),or with no caregiver(OR=1.61,95%CI:1.14-2.29).In contrast,those who lived in urban areas(OR=0.58,95%CI:0.48-0.70),earned less than 3 000 RMB a month(OR=0.60,95%CI:0.38-0.93),had average life satisfaction(OR=0.51,95%CI:0.26-0.99)or had normal activity of daily living(OR=0.49,95%CI:0.32-0.74)had lower willingness for socialized elderly care.Conclusions Home-based care is the preferred elder care model for community-dwelling older adults in Shanghai.Comprehensive assessment of their economic status,personal capabilities,and living conditions should be conducted to effectively identify their elder care needs,and further improve the construction of elder care facilities and the provision of socialized elderly care services in Shanghai.
