Analysis of sexual behaviors characteristics and influencing factors among college students in Sichuan Province
Objective This study aimed to understand the current situation and characteristics of sexual behaviors among college students in Sichuan Province,as well as to identify the influencing factors.The findings aim to provide a theoretical basis for the formulation of sex education programs.Methods A combination of purposive sampling and stratified cluster sampling was used to select college students from 121 classes in 10 colleges and universities in Sichuan Province from October to December 2020.Results The study included 4 133 participants,among whom 377(9.12%)reported engaging in sexual behaviors.The incidence of sexual behaviors among men 14.33%(227/1 584)was higher than that among women 5.88%(150/2 549)(x2=84.070,P<0.01).Factors such as anxiety(OR=1.44,95%CI:1.03-2.00),experiences of cyber harassment(OR=1.61,95%CI:1.25-2.08),physical and verbal violence(OR=1.58,95%CI:1.02-2.44),and sexual harassment(OR=1.51,95%CI:1.10-2.07),were identified as high-risk factors influencing the occurrence of sexual behavior among college students.Furthermore,the factors affecting the sexual behavior of male and female college students are different.A tolerant attitude towards casual sex and one-night stands(completely agree OR=1.96,95%CI:1.03-3.72;somewhat agree OR=2.48,95%CI:1.39-4.41;neutral/unclear OR=1.72,95%CI:1.06-2.81)were identified as risk factors for sexual behavior among male college students.Conclusions Colleges and universities need to continue conducting sex education,pay attention to students'mental health,and prevent the occurrence of preventive violence.At the same time,targeted measures can be taken according to thedifference in influencing factors of sexual behavior between male and female students.
