Analysis of the occurrence and clinical characteristics of birth defects in multiple births in Jilin Province
Objective To analyze the occurrence and clinical characteristics of birth defects in multiple pregnancies in Jilin Province, and provide a basis for reducing the occurrence of birth defects in multiple pregnancies. Methods Children with birth defects discovered by the Jilin Province Birth Defects Reporting System from 2017 to 2021 were selected as the research subjects, and the occurrence and clinical characteristics of birth defects in multiple pregnancies were analyzed. Results From 2017 to 2021,the incidence of birth defects in Jilin province was 130.05/10 000,with the incidence of birth defect rates in singleton infants was 125.27/10 000,and the incidence of birth defect rates in multiple births was 522.81/10 000.The difference was statistically significant(x2=877.15,P<0.01).Among the types of birth defects, the incidence rate of congenital malformations of the circulatory and respiratory systems was the highest(38.71/10 000).Mothers with birth defects in multiple pregnancies have a higher pregnancy age, shorter gestational age, lower fetal birth weight, and delayed diagnosis. Conclusions The incidence of birth defects in multiple pregnancies is higher than that in single pregnancies in Jilin Province. We should pay attention to the prenatal screening and prenatal diagnosis management of multiple pregnancies and strengthen the monitoring of pregnancy and fetal development in multiple births with birth defects.Targeted preventive and intervention measures for birth defects in multiple births should be developed and improved.
