Objective To explore the progress and problems faced by the Children's Hospital of Fudan University in the construction of the branch hospitals of National Children's Medical Center and to put forward strategic suggestions for further improving the operation and management mechanisms and promoting the connotation construction and high-quality collaborative development of the branches.Methods Face-to-face interviews and questionnaire-based surveys were conducted to investigate the status quo of each branch,in particular the problems and challenges.Results Steered by the National Children's Medical Center,all the branch hospitals have achieved certain progress in becoming leading pediatric/maternal healthcare providers in specific areas.However,gaps still existed in terms of homogeneous management,coordinated development and cooperation with the National Center,and resource sharing.Conclusion Top-level design is critical in the construction of branch hospitals as it will further define the goals and functions of each branch.The coordination of strategy,culture,polices,resources,and information will further promote the homogeneous and comprehensive development of the National Center and its branch hospitals.
