Objective To explore the value of early warning model for assessing the operational resources of blood collection services in outpatient setting. Methods The resource utilization and capacity constraints of the blood collection counter in a hospital were assessed.Based on a combination of the relative resource carrying capacity method and the linear optimization method, the key operational resources were selected to establish an evaluation model and configuration standard for operational resources. An early warning model was established to enable rapid resource re-allocation.Results After the implementation of the new model, the average waiting time at the blood collection counter was significantly shortened, and the resource allocation efficiency was markedly raised. Conclusion The establishment of operational resource monitoring and early warning mechanism can effectively predict resource demand and respond in a timely manner.
