Objective To explore the occupational exposure among medical staff in Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)hospitals, aiming to provide evidence in the development of effective strategies for occupational safety. Methods The data of medical personnel experiencing occupational exposure in a tertiary TCM hospital in Guangdong Province from January 2020 to December 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. Results A total of 398 cases(4.83%)of occupational exposure were reported during this period. The incidence rates of occupational exposure did not differ across different years(P>0.05).Women,staff with less than 5 years of service, and doctors accounted for higher proportions of occupational exposure. The exposure typically occurred during the disassembly of instruments or equipment(40.70%),mainly in the site of wards(56.28%).The most common type of exposure was sharps wounds(87.69%),especially by acupuncture needles(42.69%).The source of exposure was more common in non-blood borne infectious diseases(51.26%).At the time of exposure,185 individuals(46.48%)wore gloves, and 376(94.47%)received standard emergency treatment. After 6 months of follow-up monitoring,no post-exposure infection occurred. Conclusion The incidence of occupational exposure is high among medical staff in TMC hospitals.Standardized injection practice, enhanced occupational safety training, and higher awareness of occupational protection will help prevent occupational exposure.
