Comparison on the antioxidant activity of eight components from Rhodiola in vitro
Aim To make a comparative study of the antioxidant activity of eight kinds of glycosides or alcohols from Rhodiola in vitro, including Rutin, Salidro-side, Isoquercitrin, Tyrosol, Rosarin, Brbutin, Rosa-vin, Cinnamyl alcohol. Methods The antioxidant activities were evaluated by total anti-oxidative capacity assay, antilipid peroxidation capacity assay, 1,1 -di-phenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl ( DPPH ) free radical scavenging activity assay, superoxide anion scavenging activity assay, NO free radical scavenging activity assay and hydroxyl scavenging activity assay. Results Isoquercitrin and Rutin showed significantly stronger antioxidant activity than other components in all assays excepthydroxyl scavenging. In DPPH radical scavenging, superoxide anion radical scavenging, antilipid peroxidation assays, IC50 value were 5. 72 and 10. 46, 23. 63 and 36. 39, 10. 78 and 56. 49 mg · L-1 respectively. While Tyrosol and Salidroside showed stronger antioxidant activity in hydroxyl scavenging, their IC50 were 10. 84 and 18. 97 mg · L-1. Conclusions Glycosides or alcohols from Rhodiola have scavenging activities on various of free radicals and have excellent antioxidation property and a prospective future of applications.
