Investigation on knowledge,belief and practice of thalassemia among people of childbearing age in western Guangxi
Objective To investigate the knowledge,belief and behavior of thalassemia among people of childbearing age in western Guangxi,and analyze its influencing factors,so as to provide reference for the formulation of intervention measures for the prevention and control of thalassemia.Methods A self-designed questionnaire on knowledge,belief and be-havior of thalassemia was used to investigate 1051 people of childbearing age in western Guangxi.Results The average scores of knowledge,belief and behavior of people of childbearing age in western Guangxi were 58.12±11.59,28.91±4.57 and 13.78±3.65 respectively.Linear stepwise regression analysis showed that the main factors affecting knowledge,belief and behavior were education level,occupation,marriage and childbearing status,whether there were medical workers among rela-tives and friends,and whether they had contact with thalassemia patients.Conclusion The knowledge of thalassemia among people of childbearing age in western Guangxi is in the upper-middle level,and the belief is more positive,but the preventive behavior still needs to be strengthened.The scores of knowledge,belief and behavior are affected by education level,occupa-tion,marriage and childbearing status,whether there are medical workers among relatives and friends,and whether they have been exposed to thalassemia patients.Flexible and effective health education should be carried out for people with different occupations,educational levels,marriage and childbearing status,so as to improve their knowledge of thalassemia,establish positive beliefs and take healthy behaviors.
